Room to Read helps to change the ending of stories of young girls from lower income groups, by teaching them how to eliminate the barriers to education.
Her mother kept poor help and her father turned to alcohol abuse. So armed with the confidence she had learned from the life-skills programme, young Neelam took over the reigns of the family. But this did not go down well with the neighbors. They started condemning her independent nature and would find occasion to incite and intimidate her. With support from her Room to Read mentor; Neelam took on the community and the legal system entirely on her own.
