Seaweed cultivation has become a source of income and livelihood for women living in Tamil Nadu’s coastal communities. After learning modern seaweed farming, local fisherwomen formed Seaweed Squads to harvest the previous marine commodity. Thanks to their new job, local women have increased their income and bargaining power – and become role models within and outside their fishing communities.
